Crews were called to the 1800 block of 18 Avenue North at around 4:30 a.m. after the family in the home noticed smoke and called 911 before evacuating.

Crews extinguished the fire, and the damage was estimated at $5,000.

LFES is reminding residents that candles should be extinguished before leaving a room or going to sleep, and that it is important to install smoke alarms and test them monthly.
