SASKATOON, SK – The Lethbridge Hurricanes have now lost five straight games after falling 4-1 to the Saskatoon Blades on Friday, November 29, 2024.

The Hurricanes were fresh off finishing a three-game U.S. road trip, and not long after drove east for two games in Saskatchewan.

The first period of the game saw now entries on the scoresheet despite a powerplay chance for each team. The Blades outshot the Hurricanes 12-10 in the frame, but both Brady Smith and Evan Gardner stood strong in net.

In the second period, Blades forward Brandon Lisowsky kicked off the scoring 1:21 in, stripping Shane Smith of the puck and burning down the ice to wire a wrist shot past Brady Smith to make it 1-0.

Just over two minutes later, Rowan Calvert deflected a point shot from Tanner Molendyk past Smith to make it a 2-0 game. The Hurricanes had their chances in the second, peppering 16 shots on Gardner, but they could not get a puck into the net.

In the third, the Blades continued their offensive onslaught, as Lukas Hansen and Zach Olsen buried goals just 22 seconds apart to make it a 4-0 lead for Saskatoon.

However, Gardner would not be credited with the shutout, as Hurricanes captain Noah Chadwick took a feed from Leo Braillard in the slot, firing it past Gardner to score the team’s only goal of the night.

The goal did end up being a milestone marker for a member of the Hurricanes, as Chase Petersen’s secondary assist was his first career WHL point.

The Hurricanes will have another chance to snap their losing streak on Saturday, November 30 when they travel to Prince Albert to take on the Raiders.
