CPKC Holiday Train to make a few stops in southern Alberta

Dec 2, 2024 | 9:12 AM

It will not be coming to Lethbridge this year, but southern Albertans will have a few opportunities to experience this holiday tradition.

The nationwide tour of the Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) Holiday Train is underway.

After starting in eastern Canada, it will enter Alberta on Sunday, December 8, making its first stop in the province in Medicine Hat.

From there, the train will head to other regional communities such as Gleichen, Airdrie, Calgary, Cochrane, Stoney Nakoda, Canmore and Banff. The full Alberta schedule can be found below:

The CPKC Holiday Train brings decorated train cars and musical performances to communities across the country.

It raises money for food banks and food pantries in the places it stops, so while it is a free event, food or monetary donations are encouraged.

Since 1999, the Holiday Train program has raised more than $24.3 million and more than 5.3 million pounds of food for North American food banks.
