LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) has laid charges against one of its own Community Peace Officers (CPO).

The officer is charged with assault and assault causing bodily harm, stemming from historic family violence that is alleged to have taken place between 2006 and 2014. This was first reported to LPS in October 2024.

The police department says it will not be releasing the name of the accused officer.

“It is LPS policy to withhold the name of the accused if disclosure could identify the victim of a family violence incident. This policy applies equally to any member of the public in order to protect the privacy of impacted victims,” reads a media release from LPS.

The employee worked as a CPO for just over one-and-a-half years and is currently suspended with pay.

The charged officer and their family have been offered supports by LPS during the court process.

LPS says it will not be releasing any further details on this case.
