$2 million worth of cocaine seized at Coutts border

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) says it recently stopped a major drug shipment from the United States.

On November 13, 2024, officers at the Coutts border crossing pulled a commercial truck over for a secondary inspection.

When they looked inside, members claimed to have located 189 kilograms of cocaine, said to be worth an estimated $2 million.

The CBSA’s Director for the Southern Alberta and Southern Saskatchewan District Ben Tame commended the officers for preventing illegal drugs from entering Canada.

“In cooperation with our law enforcement partners, the RCMP and the Calgary Police Service, this significant seizure serves as another example of how Canada’s borders are being secured and drugs are kept off our streets,” says Tame.

Superintendent Jeff Bell with the CPS Criminal Operations & Intelligence Division adds that the drugs had the potential to cause “serious damage” to communities.

A spokesperson from the RCMP confirmed to LNN that no charges have been laid at this time. The CBSA says it and all of its partners are engaged in the ongoing criminal investigation.
