LETHBRIDGE, AB – A man has been charged following an alleged assault at a grocery store in north Lethbridge.

Police say on December 15, 2024, just after 9:00 a.m., police responded to calls regarding an active altercation outside of the Save On Foods at 1245 2A Avenue North.

When police arrived, they found a security guard restraining an Indigenous male, whom they later learned had several conditions including not attending any of the premises along 1240 2A Avenue North.

Witnesses say the security guard had approached the man outside of the building, and the man threatened and struck the security guard in the head with a table leg in response. The security guard then reportedly tackled the man, restraining him until police arrived.

The security guard was taken to hospital and was treated for a cut on the back of his head.

Rhen Small Legs, 37, of Lethbridge, was arrested and held for a Judicial Interim Hearing.

He is facing charges of Assault with a Weapon, Assault Causing Bodily Harm, and two counts of Failing to Comply with Undertaking Conditions.
