Nominations now open for Minister’s Seniors Service Awards

Jan 2, 2025 | 4:23 PM

The provincial government has opened nominations for the Minister’s Seniors Service Awards.

Since 1998, the awards have celebrated not only individuals but organizations for their work in helping Alberta’s seniors through volunteerism and philanthropy. Over that time, they’ve recognized nearly 200 people and organizations.

The Government of Alberta is asking residents to nominate a person, group, or business in 13 designated awards for their service to seniors.

“I sincerely appreciate every Albertan who dedicates their time and energy to uplift the lives of seniors across the province,” said Jason Nixon, Minister of Seniors, Community and Social Services.

“They play an incredibly important role in helping Alberta’s seniors live happy, healthy and vibrant lives. I encourage everyone to nominate a volunteer or organization that they believe deserves our thanks and recognition for their hard work.”

The deadline for nominations is April 30 and the nomination period will include 2024 and 2025.

Nominations can be submitted online or by mail and email and selected recipients will be honoured at an in-person ceremony in fall 2025.

Some of the 13 awards includes the Alice Modin Award, which recognizes a senior individual or couple for exceptional commitment to their community and the province through long-term volunteer service.

Two Special Service Awards are also being featured this year including the Bridging Generations Award, which honours individuals, groups or organizations that excel in uniting generations through shared experiences and backgrounds.

The second is the Community Philanthropy in Action Award, which recognizes Albertans who mobilize community resources through philanthropic efforts to support seniors.
