The province says 2024 marked a very successful year for Alberta Parks.

This past year, more than 228,000 camping reservations were processed in Alberta, and the province says that over 2.3 million people stayed overnight at reservable camping spaces.

Amongst those who have attended provincial parks and campsites in the province, officials with Alberta Parks reported a satisfaction rate of 87 per cent, along with more than 670,000 interactions with visitors.

Todd Loewen, Minister of Forestry and Parks said, “I’m incredibly proud of our provincial parks system which continues to support outdoor recreation, conservation goals and good-paying jobs for Albertans. Our parks remain accessible while providing so many people with the chance to experience our beautiful backyard.”

However, with the high numbers comes increased demand, so the province is working to create and expand spaces for the visitors to use. In 2024, these include the new Kleskun Hills Provincial Park and La Biche River Provincial Recreation Area.

In addition, 2024 saw the launch of the province’s Plan for Parks public engagement, which works to identify and guide recreation and conservation priorities for the next decade.

Alberta is home to more than 470 provincial parks and recreation areas, and according to the province the parks contribute an estimated $1 billion annually to provincial GDP.
