Thomas: New Liberal leader won’t make a difference in Trudeau’s absence

The Member of Parliament for Lethbridge believes Canadians need a whole new federal government, not just a different person in charge.

Rachael Thomas is reacting to the announcement Monday that Justin Trudeau will be stepping down as Prime Minister and head of the Liberal Party of Canada once a new leader is chosen.

A leadership race is set to begin immediately, and until then, Parliament will be prorogued until March 24, 2025.

Thomas says it does not matter who ultimately wins that contest and takes over the reigns of the Liberals.

“Make no mistake, every single Liberal MP helped Justin Trudeau break the country over the last 9 years,” says Thomas.

She adds that, for the most part, Liberal MPs have unanimously supported Trudeau and his agenda.

“Together, they doubled housing costs, hiked taxes, unleashed crime, broke Canada’s immigration system, and forced a quarter of the population into poverty,” says Thomas.

The Conservative MP claims that the Liberal party is not looking to move on from Trudeau’s leadership because they had a change of heart on key issues, but rather, because he is no longer popular enough to win the next election.

Thomas claims that Trudeau chose to step down now because, with a prorogued Parliament, the Conservatives will be unable to call a non-confidence vote and try to force an early election, which had been the plan.

“Now, while leaderless Liberals focus on saving their jobs and fighting each other for power, the country spirals out of control.”

She believes that having an election sooner rather than later would be the best course of action for Canadians.
