Lethbridge man charged with possessing 3D-printed gun, drug trafficking

The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) has confiscated what it calls a “ghost gun.”

Officers say they arrested a man on January 9, 2025, and that he allegedly had a “3D-printed Glock-style handgun” tucked into his waistband.

ALERT Lethbridge Staff Sgt. Trevor Sheppard says, “Ghost guns are favoured by organized crime because of their ability to bypass lawful acquisition and can go undetected. These pose a serious risk to our communities, especially in the hands of a drug dealer.”

The Lethbridge Police Service helped to search a home on the west side.

In total, the law enforcement agencies claim to have seized a suspected 3D-printed firearm, a prohibited over-capacity magazine with ammunition, 163 grams of cocaine, 220 opioid pills, and $8,600 in cash.

Austin Young, 18, of Lethbridge, is charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime, knowingly possessing an unauthorized firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a vehicle, possession of a loaded firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, and knowingly possessing an overcapacity magazine.

Young remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on January 16, 2025.
