U of L Pronghorns take home silver medal at 2025 Golden Bear Invitational

EDMONTON, AB – The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns wrestling teams attended the 2025 Golden Bear Invitational from January 11 to 12, and came away with one silver medal.

Brydget Dearling claimed the silver in the Open Women – 83kg competition, taking down Abby Delorme of the University of Calgary to book her ticket to the final. She lost by tech fall to the University of Saskatchewan’s Myah Phillips in the final.

The rest of the U of L wrestlers had the following finishes:

  • Payton Shields Women’s 62kg 6th
  • Danya Braun Women’s 65kg 5th
  • Nadia Greaves Women’s 76kg 5th
  • Micheal Thomas Men’s 76kg 4th
  • Colton Boxwell Men’s 82kg 5th

The men’s team placed fourth in the tournament overall while the women placed fifth. Head Coach Shawn Daye-Finley says despite the lower finishes, he is very happy in the results from the very new team.

“This is only our second year as a team, and I couldn’t be prouder of the athletes and their accomplishments to date. It won’t be long before they will be dominating the podium as a team.”

The Pronghorns wrestling team will next be in competition on January 24 and 25. On the former day, the team will face off against the University of Calgary Dinos in a dual meet, before hosting the Pronghorn Invitational Wrestling Tournament the on the 25th.
