High winds and the snow that accompanied it later resulted in many collisions in the region.

The RCMP says officers in its Southern Alberta District responded to 24 collisions between noon on Thursday, January 16, and 8:00 a.m. on Friday. One of those collisions resulted in injuries and 23 involved property damage.

The Lethbridge Police Service says it was called out to another two collisions while the Medicine Hat Police Service responded to four.

Alberta-wide, the RCMP says there were 149 reported collisions, but that number could grow over the next few days as reports come in from various detachments.

  • Central Alberta District: 71 reported collisions (Three injury, 68 property damage)
  • Eastern Alberta District: 28 reported collisions (All property damage)
  • Southern Alberta District: 24 reported collision (One injury, 23 property damage)
  • Western Alberta District: 26 reported collisions (Two injury, 24 property damage)
