Winds exceed 100 km/hr in southern Alberta Thursday

To say it was pretty windy on Thursday would be an understatement.

Environment Canada has provided an update on peak wind gusts over the last day.

They say chinook winds brought seasonally high temperatures into southern Alberta on January 16, but snow and freezing temperatures early into the morning of January 17.

Forecasters report that the winds got the strongest in Waterton Lakes National Park, reaching a maximum of 109 kilometres per hour.

Wind gusts up to 103 km/hr were recorded in the Hamlet of Travers in Vulcan County, and 102 km/hr in the border town of Carway.

Pincher Creek just reached three-digit wind speeds, peaking at 100 km/hr.
