A local church is giving nearly one-quarter of a million dollars to two organizations that support vulnerable populations in Lethbridge.

The Evangelical Free Church of Lethbridge (EFCL) has announced a total of $242,977 that will be donated to Streets Alive Mission and the Lethbridge Soup Kitchen through its Advent Conspiracy initiative.

EFCL Lead Pastor Jeremy Light says they serve Jesus by serving people.

“Advent Conspiracy has been an incredible way for our congregation to come together and support meaningful change in our community. We are thrilled to partner with Streets Alive Mission and the Lethbridge Soup Kitchen, two organizations doing vital work to address poverty and restore dignity to those in need,” says Light.

Streets Alive Mission will receive $164,488 for its Exodus Men’s Recovery Program, Re-Purpose Donation Centre and Restoration of Dignity programs.

Founder Ken Kissick says they are “honoured and truly grateful” to be one of the funding recipients.

“The funds raised for our Mission will provide for much-needed new equipment as we prepare to move the Mission into its new home this summer, allowing us to increase the services provided to the most vulnerable of our community,” says Kissick.

Another $78,488 will support the Lethbridge Soup Kitchen in its efforts to fixture its expansion.

Director Bill Ginther says the money will go a long way in supporting people in need.

“We at the Lethbridge Soup Kitchen are very thankful for the long-term financial and volunteer support from the leadership and congregation of E-Free Lethbridge,” says Ginther. “Being named as one of the recipients of the Church’s 2024 Advent Conspiracy was an absolute blessing to our not-for-profit organization, and the $78,488 donation will totally furnish our upcoming expansion, putting us in an even better position to provide meals to our homeless neighbours.”

The EFCL is planning a cheque presentation ceremony on February 5, 2025.
