Kaitlyn Ross, 23, was a goaltender for Canada in women’s hockey at the games.

She played for the Canadian team who lost 2-1 in overtime to Czechia in the gold medal game.

“It’s always an honour to represent your country,” Ross told CHAT News Saturday.

Ross played in two of Canada’s five games during the event and stopped all 11 shots she faced.

The women’s hockey competition at the games ran from Jan. 11 to 20.

Ross said that the experience was once in a lifetime, as not many get to say that they wore the Team Canada jersey.

She said that taking home silver doesn’t ruin the experience of playing with some unreal players.

“It was interesting to see the different calibers that are out there,” she said.

“Honestly, in a way it was kind of nice to just dominate teams like that and to see that level of play come from our team. But some of those teams, too, you can’t take for granted,” she added.

“Their programs are growing, they’re still good teams, but it was interesting to see.”

A dual sport athlete from Redcliff, Ross also won a bronze medal last summer as a member of team Canada at the Women’s Baseball World Cup.

Ross is currently in her sixth season with the Mount Royal University Cougars women’s hockey team in Calgary.
