Jan 30, 2025 | 12:41 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) has a pipe band.

On January 20, a Memorandum of Understanding between LPS and two community pipe bands, The Legion Pipe Band and the Bridge City Highlanders Pipes and Drums, was officially signed.

The MOU solidified the creation of the new Lethbridge Police Service Pipe Band, which will perform at both internal and external events.

Inspector Jason Dobirstein says it is nice to have a band for LPS, as lots of other police services do.

The band is comprised of about two dozen police and civilian volunteers, and they are aiming to promote and grow the traditions of Scottish music and the history of military and law enforcement pipe bands.

Members will be wearing the Charles Edward Stuart tartan, a vibrant blend of red and dark green and complimented by yellow, blue and white stripes. The uniforms are currently being made, and band members will wear some parts of their previous ceremonial kit in the mean time.

The group’s first performance will come on Saturday, February 1 when they play at the Bringing Hearts Home Gala at the Agri-Food Hub & Trade Centre.
