Extreme cold warning issued for parts of southern Alberta

While it is certainly a brisk morning everywhere in the region, Environment Canada says certain sections face extreme cold.

It has issued an extreme cold warning, saying temperatures near -40 degrees Celsius are expected Monday morning.

“While temperatures will moderate somewhat during the daytime hours, nighttime and early morning wind chills near minus 40 will likely continue for parts of Alberta until the middle of the week,” reads an advisory from Environment Canada.

Communities in the southwest corner of the province impacted by the weather alert include Pincher Creek, Waterton Lakes National Park and Crowsnest Pass.

It also includes southeastern communities such as Medicine Hat, Bow Island and Foremost.

Although Lethbridge is not part of the extreme cold warning, Environment Canada says wind chills Monday morning could reach -37, slightly improving to a high of -31 with the wind chill in the afternoon.

Forecasters say the weather should moderate by Thursday as Lethbridge has a forecast high of -9 that day.
