Lethbridge Police charge five in identity fraud investigation
Lethbridge Police have charged five members of a group following a lengthy investigation into alleged fraudulent activity throughout the province.
According to LPS, the investigation was launched in the fall of 2023 after the search of a north Lethbridge residence which police say led to the seizure of hundreds of forged identity documents, along with equipment for manufacturing IDs.
LPS says further investigation revealed many of the IDs were found to belong to identity theft victims from various provinces.
Police allege multiple subjects attended financial institutions throughout southern Alberta and fraudulently opened bank accounts, credit cards, loans and other accounts in the names of the identity theft victims.
