Polar Plunge returns to Lethbridge for 2025

LETHBRIDGE, AB – A winter staple charity event is returning to Lethbridge for 2025.

The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS), in partnership with the Law Enforcement Torch Run, is encouraging residents to support the 2025 Polar Plunge, which raises money and awareness for the Special Olympics.

This year’s Polar Plunge will take place on Saturday, February 8 at Henderson Lake Park, where participants will jump into the lake beginning at 11 a.m. Once they get out, there will be a hot tub to warm them up, provided by Arctic Spas.

Constable Braylon Hyggen with LPS is organizing the event, said, “Taking the plunge into freezing water isn’t for the faint of heart, but when it’s for such an incredible cause, it makes every shiver worthwhile.”

LPS is entering two teams this year. One consists of Braylon Hyggen, mayor Blaine Hyggen, Inspector Jason Dobirstein and Chief Shahin Mehdizadeh. The other team is made up of five current police recruits.

Individuals or teams can register in advance here, or on the day beginning at 10:00.

All plungers must be a minimum of 16-years-old, and no diving or cannonballs are allowed. There will be a changing tent on-site, and LPS says cool costumes are encouraged.
