A person from Lethbridge will spend the next several years behind bars following one of the largest drug busts in the city’s history.

On Wednesday, February 5, 2025, Patrick Rodney learned his fate.

The 36-year-old was sentenced to 12 years in prison, but with credit for time already served, he has a little less than nine years remaining.

He was convicted on five charges, including several related to drug trafficking, as well as the possession of a loaded firearm.

Rodney was arrested on December 20, 2022, following a joint investigation by the Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) and the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team.

Officers searched a home in the London Road area on the south side and a north side garage near Winston Churchill High School.

The drugs seized include 5.2 kilograms of methamphetamine, 3.2 kilograms of cocaine, 1.6 kilograms of fentanyl powder, 418 grams of ketamine, and 35 grams of psilocybin mushrooms.

The estimated street value of the drugs is approximately $1 million.

Police say they also confiscated around $79,000 in cash and four firearms.

At the time of his arrest, LPS said it was the second-largest seizure of drugs it had ever dealt with.
