There is a new person in charge of the University of Lethbridge’s (U of L) golf program.

Dean Spriddle has a Master’s Degree in Physical Education and more than 27 years as a Class A Professional with the PGA of Canada.

He has previously been named the Canadian PGA Teacher of the Year and is a five-time Alberta PGA Teacher of the Year.

Spriddle has also served as the National Golf Coach for the Canadian Ladies Golf Association and led the team to a runner-up finish at the 2004 World Amateur Championships.

He says his goal is to help Pronghorn athletes reach their full potential and continue to elevate the program within Canada West and U SPORTS golf.

“I am a golf coach and love competition. Taking on the role of Head Coach for Pronghorn Golf is an exciting challenge and I’m looking forward to helping develop young golfers. It’s a fun and rewarding process, and I can’t wait to work with our student-athletes to help them succeed, both on and off the course,” says Spriddle.

He adds that he wants the U of L to be a place where student-athletes come for both a great education and the opportunity to compete in a sport they love.

“I believe that with the right structure and support, this will become a premier destination for golf in Canada.”

Spencer Pommells, Athletic Director for Pronghorn Athletics, says he is thrilled to have Spriddle join their organization.

“His distinguished career and proven leadership in the world of golf make him the ideal candidate to take our program to the next level. Dean’s experience, mentorship and vision for the future will have a profound impact on our student-athletes and the overall success of Pronghorn Golf,” says Pommels.

Spriddle has been instrumental in coaching and developing golf programs, including his role as a coach of coaches for the Puerto Rico Golf Association.
