Feb 10, 2025 | 12:45 PM

The Lethbridge Hurricanes won both of their games on the weekend in dominant fashion.

February 7 vs. Prince Albert Raiders

In the first game of their two-game set, the Hurricanes welcomed the East Division leading Prince Albert Raiders on Friday night.

Ahead of the game, the team held a ceremony to recognize Corey Lyons, Ben Wright and Herb Beswick, who were inducted into the team’s Wall of Fame.

The first period of the game started off strong, with Carsen Adair taking a pass from Brayden Yager 1:57 in, and unleashing a hard wrister past Max Hildebrand for the first goal of his WHL career. Leo Braillard added the second assist on the goal.

Later in the frame at the 13:37 mark, Yager would add his own goal, with Braillard passing the puck cross-ice to Yager, who fired a wrist shot in for his 19th goal of the season and eighth as a Hurricane. Lethbridge outshot Prince Albert 15-4 in the opening frame.

In the second, the Hurricanes added to their lead on a strange goal. Kooper Gizwoski entered the zone on a rush and fed the puck towards the net, where it deflected off the stick of a Raiders defenseman past the line, where it bounced off the stick of Hurricanes forward Cameron Norrie and out. After a replay, the goal was confirmed, with Gizowski receiving credit for his eighth of the year.

In the second half of the middle frame, the Raiders broke Jackson Unger’s shutout with a goal from Lukas Dragicevic with under three minutes left.

The Hurricanes then continued their dominance on a powerplay early in the third, with Noah Chadwick taking a drop pass from Brayden Edwards and firing a shot past Hildebrand from the point. Chadwick’s 11th of the year was assisted by Edwards and Yager.

About seven and a half minutes of game time later, the Hurricanes struck on the powerplay again, as Leo Braillard finished off a tic-tac-toe passing play from Chadwick and Yager to notch his 20th goal of the season.

The Canes would add one more goal in the game, this time shorthanded. On a 2-on-1 rush, Yager fed Shane Smith, who scored his eighth goal of the season, which also gave Yager his fifth point of the night as the Hurricanes routed the Raiders 6-1.

Unger stopped 17 of 18 shots, while the Hurricanes peppered Prince Albert’s goaltenders with 44 shots.

Yager’s five point night got him the first star of the game, while Braillard was named second star, and Carsen Adair’s first career goal netted him third star honours.

February 8 @ Red Deer Rebels

Coming off a massive win at home, the Hurricanes ventured up Highway 2 to take on the Red Deer Rebels on Saturday night at the Peavey Mart Centrium.

In the first period, Leo Braillard and Brayden Yager continued their white hot play, with the former scoring a powerplay goal 16:58 in, assisted by Chadwick and Yager.

Two minutes later, on the same double minor powerplay, Braillard took the puck from Yager and fired it towards the net, where it re-directed off the stick of Brayden Edwards and in for his 21st goal of the season. Koen Cleaver got the start in net for Lethbridge in the game, and stopped all eight shots he faced in the first.

After a second period with no scoring and six more saves from Cleaver, the Hurricanes continued to turn up the energy in the third.

The Canes found themselves on another powerplay early in the final frame, and capitalized yet again, with Yager unleashing a monster of shot past Chase Wutzke, which went bar down for Yager’s third point of the night. Chadwick and Braillard also continued their point streaks with the two assists on the goal.

At the 11:19 mark, the Hurricanes would add another goal, this time off the stick of Carson Adair again, who fired a wrister from the slot for his second career goal just one night after his first goal. Assisting on the goal were Kash Andresen and Trae Johnson.

The Rebels put 11 shots on Cleaver in the final period, but the Hurricanes netminder slammed the door for a 25 save shutout as Lethbridge won 4-0.

Braillard and Yager were the first and second stars of the game, while Cleaver’s dominance in goal got him third star.

The Hurricanes will play next on Tuesday, February 11 in Calgary when they take on the Hitmen.
