A Medicine Hat woman has won $500,000 from the Western Canada Lottery Corporation.

Janice Adams won the cash on the WCLC’s Daily Grand in the Nov. 14 draw.

“I checked [the ticket] on the app a couple of times, then I checked it manually on the WCLC website,” Adams said.

“I thought it was wrong!” she laughed, according to a news release.

“I just didn’t believe it. I thought it was a glitch and there was just no way.”

Once Adams had confirmed that she had in fact won big, she decided to opt for the $500,000 lump sum payment instead of $25,000 a year for life, the WCLC said.

One of her first purchases was a vacuum.

“The first thing I thought was, ‘What do I need? A good vacuum!’” she said.

Adams said her main feeling is one of excitement at the possibilities of how to spend the remaining money.

Adams purchased her winning ticket from RUYI Lottery in Calgary.
