LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes are back in the win column after a 3-1 victory over the Red Deer Rebels on Wednesday, February 12.

The team had recently had its three-game streak snapped by the Calgary Hitmen the night before.

In the first period, the Hurricanes kept up pressure throughout, outshooting Red Deer 13-8. 5:40 into the frame on the powerplay, they broke the scoreless tie when Kash Andresen jumped on a rebound in front of the net, burying it past Peyton Shore for his sixth of the season, assisted by Shane Smith and Kooper Gizowski.

The Hurricanes continued to bolster their lead in the second period, with Caden Price scoring his first goal since being traded to the Hurricanes off a passing play from Brayden Yager and Leo Braillard.

They would add another with 1:31 left in the middle frame on another powerplay. Yager took a pass at the top of the zone from Noah Chadwick and fired a wrist shot towards the net, which found its way through defenders into the Rebels’ cage for a 3-1 lead. Yager’s second point of the night came during a game where the team celebrated his 250th WHL game.

Koen Cleaver continued his excellent game in the second, turning away 13 shots.

In the final period, the Rebels would get their lone goal of the game 6:29 in. Cleaver made a great save off of Matthew Gard in the slot, but could not stop Gard’s rebound shot. The goal was the first one Cleaver had allowed since January 24.

Cleaver would stop nine shots in the third to shut down the Rebels, totaling 30 saves as the Hurricanes beat Red Deer 3-1.

Yager and Cleaver made up the first and second stars of the game, while Gard rounded out the three.

The Hurricanes improve to a 33-16-2-1 record on the season with the win, and will take on the Regina Pats at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena on Friday, February 14.
