The University of Lethbridge is hosting a week full of activities and information sessions for Sexual Violence Awareness Week (SVAW).

SVAW takes place from February 24-28, 2025, and is meant to open conversations and initiate an atmosphere of empathy and support.

U of L Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Prevention Coordinator Leah Webster says it is an opportunity to educate their campus about the impacts of sexual violence, what resources are available, and to encourage people to talk about growing a culture of consent.

“It focuses on education, prevention and empowering survivors by amplifying their voices. Additionally, this week aims to challenge harmful myths and misconceptions surrounding sexual violence,” says Webster. “By engaging students in conversations about consent, healthy relationships, empathy, active listening and mutual support, we create an environment where harmful and problematic behaviors are less likely to thrive.”

The University is putting on the following schedule of events for SVAW:

  • Monday, Feb. 24 — What Were You Wearing Art Installation, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Science Commons Atrium
  • Tuesday, Feb. 25 — ULethbridge Community Resource Event, 9 a.m. to noon, Science Commons Atrium
  • Wednesday, Feb. 26 — Pink Shirt Day/Anti-Bullying Activities, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Centre for Sport and Wellness
  • Thursday, Feb. 27 — Campus Paint by Number ‡ Wellness Booth, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., University Hall Atrium
