The court cases for three people in a fraud investigation have wrapped up quickly, while proceedings will carry on for a fourth.

On February 4, 2025, the Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) charged five people in connection to alleged identity fraud and the forging of documents.

That followed an investigation that started in the fall of 2023 when LPS said hundreds of forged identity documents were seized from a north Lethbridge home, along with equipment to manufacture IDs.

Police allege that multiple subjects attended financial institutions throughout the region and fraudulently opened bank accounts, credit cards, loans, and other accounts in the names of the identity theft victims.

Following appearances in the Lethbridge Court of Justice on February 24, Angok Malwal and Tagjok Agustino Akorkwag were each sentenced to 12 months of probation

Mutwokal Agustino Akorkwag was sentenced to 15 days in custody, but with credit for time already served, will spend just one more day behind bars.

Meanwhile, Chol Deng Ngong will stand trial on August 11, 2025, on charges of forgery, causing a person to use forged documents, intent to obtain property, and fraud under $5,000.

We were unable to confirm the latest updates for a fifth suspect, who was underaged at the time of her arrest.
