Comedian Brent Butt among six to receive U of L honourary degrees

The University of Lethbridge (U of L) is set to honour six people with honorary degrees during the 2025 Spring and Fall Convocation ceremonies.

Among the recipients is Brent Butt, a comedian known for the show “Corner Gas,” and with over 35 years in comedy, he will receive an honorary Doctor of Laws degree.

Joining him in receiving honorary degrees is a diverse group of individuals who have also made a significant impact in their fields and communities.

David Robertson, an acclaimed writer known for his work in Indigenous literature, will be honored for his impact on Canadian storytelling.

Charlie Weaselhead, a former U of L Chancellor, is being recognized for his leadership skills.

Kirk Muspratt, a conductor, is being honored for his influential work in the arts and music.

Finally, Bernadine Boulet and Toby Boulet, both community advocates, will be celebrated for their efforts in uplifting others in their community.

Terry Whitehead, U of L Chancellor, says, “We’re thrilled to announce this tremendous group of honorary degree recipients who represent all the best attributes of the Ulethbridge experience and its graduating students.”

In addition to their academic accomplishments, many of the honorees have been deeply involved in giving back.

For example, Brent Butt is headlining a fundraiser on May 25 to support the U of L Food For Thought Program, which helps support students with food insecurity.

The event will take place at the Yates Memorial Theatre and will also feature comedian Charlie Demers.

Tickets can be purchased through the City of Lethbridge Ticket Centre.
