Canstruction: Turning cans into community support

Mar 7, 2025 | 1:21 PM

Canstruction Lethbridge is back and it’s once again combining creativity with generosity.

This unique event started in Lethbridge in 2011, bringing together local engineers, designers, and artists to create impressive structures made entirely from canned goods.

This year, the sculptures will be on display at Centre Village Mall, featuring everything from towering buildings to well-known cartoon characters.

The Star Wars Millennium Falcon made out of canned goods.

Executive Director at Interfaith Food Bank, Danielle McIntyre, says, “These are fantastic events that not only provide us with a lot of great food donations, but they bring awareness to our cause, which is wonderful.”

These designs serve a much bigger purpose: all of the canned goods used in the sculptures will be donated to the Lethbridge Food Bank, Interfaith Food Bank, Lethbridge Polytechnic Food Bank, and the University of Lethbridge Students Union once the event is over.

The event aims to raise awareness about food insecurity while directly helping those in need in the Lethbridge community.

Danielle McIntyre also states, “Right now, food insecurity is a crisis, and we are seeing people all across the country who would not normally need to food bank having to come ask for help.”

The public is invited to visit the Centre Village Mall to see the sculptures and make donations.

The event, which runs until April 3, gives people the opportunity to contribute to a local cause.

This event is sponsored by WILD 95.5 and All Hits B-93.3 FM.
