Clocks spring forward one hour Sunday morning

Daylight Savings Time is upon us.

As of 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 9, 2025, clocks will jump forward by one hour to 3:00 a.m.

Devices like smartphones, computers and modern TVs should automatically adjust the time accordingly, but many appliances and manual clocks will not.

While you are going around the house and ensuring that everything that displays the time will be correct, Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services (LFES) says it is a good opportunity to check your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.

The batteries in those devices should be replaced at least once per year or whenever the low-battery warning sounds.

Smoke alarms are supposed to be replaced every 10 years, while carbon monoxide alarms should be swapped out according to manufacturer guidelines.

More information on smoke alarms can be found on the Canada Safety Council website, while LFES provides fire safety tips.
