Lethbridge Bulls to play in first-ever WCBL ‘Rural Roots’ game

Two Alberta teams will celebrate small town baseball heritage this season.

The Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL) has announced that the Lethbridge Bulls and Sylvan Lake Gulls will compete in its first-ever Rural Roots game on June 8, 2025 in Oyen.

The league says the special contest marks the 30th anniversary of the Oyen Pronghorns’ championship victory.

WCBL President and Lethbridge Bulls owner Kevin Kvame says, “Without these communities like Oyen and others throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan, we wouldn’t have the Western Canadian Baseball League as we know it today.”

In addition to the WCBL clash, the weekend-long celebration will see Lethbridge send a minor baseball team for a kids camp hosted by the Bulls.

The league says the Rural Roots game is more than just one single event, it is a potential blueprint to expand its reach into smaller communities.
