A business in southern Alberta will get some assistance in making some capital expenditures.

The Government of Alberta has announced $10 million in funding under Budget 2025 for the Aboriginal Business Investment Fund (ABIF).

It helps community-owned Indigenous businesses buy or upgrade equipment or tackle other infrastructure needs.

Minister of Indigenous Relations Rick Wilson says the ABIF continues to be a catalyst for Indigenous business growth, empowering communities to take charge of their economic futures.

“Together, we are building a brighter, more inclusive future where Indigenous businesses continue to create jobs, improve local economies and help Indigenous communities in Alberta lead the way in economic reconciliation,” says Wilson.

The only successful applicant in the region was Kainai Forage, LP.

They will use a grant of $250,000 to buy equipment for their hay press, computer system upgrades, forklifts, loaders and a used truck.

Kainai Forage is a partnership between the Blood Tribe and Indigena Capital that produces locally-grown goods like timothy hay and alfalfa for domestic and international markets.

The full list of grants being given out is available on the Government of Alberta’s website.
