There will be some local representation in a major collegiate hockey tournament.

The Canadian Hockey League (CHL) has announced that 176 CHL alumni will take part in the 2025 U SPORTS Men’s Hockey Championship.

Tristan Zandee and Ty Prefontaine from Lethbridge will be among the tournament’s competitors.

The 21-year-old Zandee is in his second season with the Mount Royal University Cougars, racking up 30 points in 54 games in his post-secondary career so far.

Before enrolling at Mount Royal, he played two seasons each for the WHL’s Calgary Hitmen and Lethbridge Hurricanes between 2020-23.

Prefontaine, 26, is in his fifth season with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies.

Prior to that, he played partial seasons with the Prince Albert Raiders and Calgary Hitmen before becoming an integral part of the Lethbridge Hurricanes between 2016-2020. Prefontaine served as the Canes’ alternate captain for two seasons before donning the “C” in 2019-2020.
