Former Lethbridge Hurricanes defenseman Ty Prefontaine played a key role in the University of Saskatchewan Huskies’ bronze medal finish at the 2025 U SPORTS Men’s Hockey Championship in Ottawa.

Prefontaine spent four seasons (2016-2020) with the Lethbridge Hurricanes in the Western Hockey League (WHL), serving as an alternate captain before being named team captain in his final season.

After graduating from the Hurricanes, he continued his hockey career at the university level with the Saskatchewan Huskies.

In the final stretch of the Huskies’ season, Prefontaine made contributions on both ends of the ice, recording a goal and an assist while maintaining a +7 rating over his last 10 games.

His defensive play was strong in the final five games, where he finished with a +6 rating.

The Huskies secured the bronze medal with a 4-1 victory over Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), earning their first national medal since 2018.

The 2025 U SPORTS University Cup featured a strong presence of former Canadian Hockey League (CHL) players, with 70 of the 87 medal-winning athletes having played in the WHL, OHL, or QMJHL before transitioning to university hockey.
