Empress Theatre launches ‘Save Our Seats’ campaign, closes for renovations

The historic Empress Theatre in Fort Macleod will close for six months starting May 1, 2025, as part of a $250,000 renovation to upgrade seating, flooring, and washrooms.

Chair of Empress Theatre Society Denise Joel says, “We are giving our current hardworking seats some love to ensure our patrons have a cushy, squeak-free, ultra-comfy experience well into the future.”

She added, “We thankfully have a head start on our fundraising due to a previous campaign in 2012 and the Ghostbusters premiere in 2021 that together raised nearly $60,000.”

With $125,000 from a provincial grant and $60,000 from past fundraisers, the Empress Theatre Society is calling on supporters to help by sponsoring a seat ($500), donating, or spreading the word.

During renovations, events will move to Trinity United Church this fall.
