Alberta’s best golfers will be in Lethbridge early this summer for a major provincial tournament.

Paradise Canyon Golf Resort will host the 2025 Alberta Men’s Amateur Golf Championship on June 25-27.

Matt Barkway, Executive Golf Professional at Paradise Canyon, says he is excited to welcome so many high-level players to a course that has been rated number one in the region for 26 consecutive years.

“It’s going to be the best players from the province. It would be, in terms of competition in Alberta, the number one event for amateur golfers,” says Barkway. “You’re going to see qualifiers in the north region, mid-central region, and south region. People actually have to qualify to get into this event – you can’t just sign up.”

The Alberta Men’s Amateur Golf Championship will feature 120 golfers, the top four of whom will move on to the national championship.

Immediately following that competition, Paradise Canyon will hold an Alberta Golf Tour event on June 28-29.

Barkway says the out-of-town golfers will each look to have at least one practice round beforehand, so he believes many will end up staying in Lethbridge for up to one week.

For both tournaments, he believes that many of the competitors will likely come down to Lethbridge with their families.

“It’s always good to give back to the city and support everything here. For us to have an event like this and have that many people coming in, they get to see the city, see the sights, support local businesses – it’s pretty special for us,” Barkway adds.

Paradise Canyon is partnering with VisitLethbridge.com to promote the tournaments as part of its new Experience Lethbridge Longer campaign. Visitors who purchase a Golf and Stay package will receive up to four complimentary green fees and a gift card for use at the golf course.

We will have more details on the campaign shortly.
