UPDATE (Mar. 31, 2025): The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) has charged a man in connection to a condo fire in the downtown core.

At approximately 3:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 29, Lethbridge Fire and EMS were called to a fire at a condo building on the 600 block of 3 Avenue South.

The flames were put out and firefighters say the apartment was extensively damaged and two connected businesses had significant water damage.

The blaze was deemed suspicious so LPS was contacted.

Police reviewed surveillance footage that reportedly showed a man accessing the building’s rooftop a short time before the fire was reported. There was evidence of an attempted break-in to one of the units, but the person was not able to get inside.

Tommy Lee Day Rider, 37, of Lethbridge, is charged with arson to property (disregard for human life), attempted house breaking and possession of a controlled substance (fentanyl).

Following a bail hearing, he remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on April 2, 2025.

Police are continuing to investigate.
