The Green Party of Canada has chosen its candidate for a southwestern Alberta riding.

Emma Hoberg looks to become the first Green MP in Foothills.

She provided the following answers to LNN in a questionnaire.

Why did you want to run in the 2025 federal election?

I wanted to run in the 2025 election to provide our riding with the option to vote green, participate in proper democracy and to supply a progressive, young voice for the riding.

Why did you choose to run for the Green Party?

I chose to run for the Green Party due to their compassionate party values that are dearly aligned with my own. Not to mention their impressive platform which I can’t wait for you all to read!

What personal or professional experience do you have that you feel would make you a good MP?

With my bachelor’s of science in environmental studies and global sustainability, with minors in political science and international relations, I have a good understanding of both environmental and social structures at a global scale.

I have worked in many industries, trying to find the best approach to positive change and prosperity for our future. If you elect me to be your MP, I can use all of my experiences and knowledge to the best of my abilities to provide solutions for issues that truly matter.

What would be a few of your top priorities if elected?

Healthcare

  • Our Universal Healthcare needs to be stronger, with a well funded universal health care system that puts our people first, not profits. We need free medications, free dental care and mental health coverage provided to all communities.

Affordability

  • People are deeply struggling with affordability, and we do not deserve to be living with these huge financial burdens. I am young, and I cannot afford kids. We can unburden Canadians by providing more affordable child care, free secondary education, expanding paid leave and financial benefits, and just lowering the cost of living in general. It’s all in the Green Party Platform.

Transition to the green economy

  • Shifting to a green economy means big changes for workers and communities. Working in these sunset industries is only a burden for progression and innovation for a successful future. Let’s build an economy that works for the resilience of our people and the environment.
