A growing number of people in Lethbridge took advantage of the services offered at the Lethbridge Public Library (LPL) last year.

They say there were more than 324,000 visits to the library in 2024, and 37,246 people attended programs.

Total library card memberships increased by 10 per cent to 25,632.

More than 1.2 million items were circulated.

Elisabeth Hegerat, Manager of Community Advancement at the LPL, says these statistics demonstrate the immense demand for library services and the growing impact on individuals and families alike.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support from our community,” says Hegerat. “Donations from Library Giving Day help to continue providing valuable library resources and services. Every donation helps, no matter the amount.”

Library Giving Day is an initiative that aims to support public libraries across North America, occurring annually on April 1.

The LPL is encouraging residents to donate to support access to library services, which it says provide cultural, educational and economic benefits.

Donations for Library Giving Day can be made online at Canada Helps or lethlib.ca/donate. Cash and cheque donations can also be made at either of the LPL’s branches. A donation of at least $20 will upgrade your membership to a library gold card.

The library not only has a vast collection of books but also movies, comic books, toys, video games and a variety of educational programs.
