The Taber Police Service (TPS) says it has apprehended a “highly intoxicated” man who allegedly caused damage to the town’s police detachment.

At approximately 1:20 a.m. on Friday, March 28, an officer reported hearing a loud banging noise outside the police station.

A staff member said they saw a man, via CCTV, throwing rocks at the building. They then reportedly heard glass breaking from inside the office of the Chief of Police.

The officer exited the building and noted damage to two vehicles belonging to TPS staff and a large hole in the office window.

“The officer encountered a male who attempted to run from the scene. The male fled on foot but was apprehended by another officer in a police vehicle a short distance away,” reads a social media post from the TPS.

A 25-year-old man from Barnwell is charged with two counts of mischief over $5,000 and one count of mischief under $5,000.

The man is set to appear in court on May 6, 2025, but since charges have not been sworn in at this time, his name cannot be released.
