The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) says it is looking into the circumstances that led to the death of a 59-year-old man.

On March 24, 2025, the Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) responded to a report of an unwanted person at a home on the south side.

Police say the man appeared agitated and was acting erratically.

The attending officers physically restrained the man and placed him into a police cruiser. Shortly afterward, LPS says the man went into medical distress and became unresponsive while police were still on scene.

The man was immediately removed from the vehicle and EMS attended, taking him to Chinook Regional Hospital.

He died in hospital on Wednesday, April 2.

ASIRT investigators are in Lethbridge investigating the matter.
