Battery recycling initiative launches in Alberta

Apr 4, 2025 | 1:38 PM

Call2Recycle has launched a new program in Alberta to give residents more convenient options to recycle batteries.

The program, “Recycle your Batteries, Canada!” officially began April 1 and operated under the Alberta Recycling Management Authority oversight. According to a media release, Call2Recycle is Canada’s leading battery collection and recycling organization.

“Expanding into Alberta is an exciting milestone for Call2Recycle as we continue our mission to enhance environmental protection and promote sustainable recycling solutions across Canada,” said Joe Zenobio, President and CEO of Call2Recycle.

“We are proud to work on behalf of our members on this new program that makes battery recycling easier and more accessible for Albertans while reducing battery waste’s environmental impact and fostering a cleaner, more sustainable future.”

Under the new program, Albertans now have access to online network that identifies over 1,100 collection locations in their communities including retail stores, municipal facilities, public institutions, and community centers. The public can find their nearest drop-off location on the Recycle Your Batteries, Canada website.

It’s not only convenient for Albertans but it also supports Call2Recycle’s efforts to protect the environment. Just last year, they collected over 6.8 million kilograms of batteries from across Canada.

Albertans are encouraged to participate in the program and contribute to a greener future by recycling their used batteries at designated collection sites.
