Street sweeping starts Tuesday in Lethbridge

It is an annual spring tradition in Lethbridge – the sweeping of the streets.

The City of Lethbridge says residential street sweeping starts on Tuesday, April 8 and will happen every weekday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for the next eight-to-10 weeks.

Street sweeping vehicles will pass through each neighbourhood to clean up debris that has settled since last year.

Transportation Operations Manager Juliane Ruck says the program promotes a sense of cleanliness and pride in the community, reduces dust and debris, and collects sand from winter ice control.

“Lots of residents are really excited to have their street cleaned, but when vehicles are parked on the street, we can’t sweep those spots and our sweepers will not come back to those areas,” says Ruck. “Please be a good neighbour and move your vehicle before the sweepers show up to help ensure your entire street is done properly.”

“No parking” signs will be set up in neighbourhoods 24 hours before the start of street sweeping. Vehicles parked in these areas may be ticketed. Residents are asked to move their vehicles off of the street before 7:30 a.m. on street sweeping days.

You can see the City’s Live Street Sweeping Map to see where the work is being done.

Street sweeping will be done on arterial roads, downtown and in the industrial area overnight for the next six to eight weeks.

More details on the street sweeping program are on the City of Lethbridge website.
