The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) has changed a man with threat and weapons offences.

Just before 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 6, 2025, officers were called to a home on the 900 block of 14 Street South on reports that a man with a gun had threatened to shoot an acquaintance.

Police secured the home and directed neighbours to shelter in place as a precaution.

The man exited the house but allegedly did not comply with the commands of the attending officers.

LPS says it deployed several sock rounds and a taser to arrest the suspect. He was taken to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

According to the police service, a shotgun that was improperly stored, along with ammunition, was found inside the home. LPS alleges that the gun had been fired inside the building.

Paul Joseph Lewis, 69, of Lethbridge, is charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, criminal harassment, resisting a peace officer, careless use of a firearm and unsafe storage of a firearm.

Following a bail hearing, Lewis was released from custody with numerous conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on May 1.
