The Government of Alberta has announced a new judicial appointment.

Effective May 1, 2025, Ryan D. Anderson will serve as a justice to the Alberta Court of Justice, Southern Region.

He grew up on his family’s farm south of Magrath and earned a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Calgary in 2002.

His legal career began at MMH Lawyers in Lethbridge shortly after graduating and joined Huckvale LLP in 2009, where he works today as a partner.

Anderson has been a bencher for the Law Society of Alberta since 2018, is a member of the Lethbridge Bar Association, and a sessional instructor at Lethbridge Polytechnic.

He has also volunteered with non-profit organizations such as SASH Disability Support Services and Magrath Agricultural Society.

The province appointed Allison Downey-Damoto to the courts in Edmonton as well.

James Hunter, Chief Justice of the Alberta Court of Justice, congratulated Anderson and Downey-Damato on their new positions as judges.

“I am confident their background and experience will serve Albertans well in our commitment to deliver timely and effective access to justice,’ says Hunter.

Lawyers with at least 10 years at the bar can apply to become a justice with the Alberta Court of Justice.
