Errors made on about 900 voter information cards in Lethbridge

Elections Canada is apologizing for sending some residents of Lethbridge to a different voting station for the 2025 federal election.

Leanne Nyirfa, a spokesperson for the organization, says errors were made in assigning voting locations on around 900 voter information cards.

“From what I understand, some people are going to a different location than what they’re normally used to going to. That was an error that was made by staff,” says Nyirfa. “It’s not something that can be fixed at this time because people do need to go to where they’re registered to vote and it would be at that polling location that was assigned to them.”

One caller told LNN that he lives on the south side but his voter information card stated that he will need to vote at the YMCA on the west side if he chooses to cast his ballot on the general election day. He said it is not a problem for him to cross the coulees, but for people who do not drive, he believes it could make voting a bit more of a challenge.

The good news, says Nyirfa, is that there are other options for voting.

Advance voting takes place from April 18-21. Residents will need to go to the advance voting station that is listed on their voter information card. Nyirfa says these should all be the correct locations.

Ballots can be cast at the Elections Canada office in Lethbridge at 640 13 Street North any time until April 22 at 6:00 p.m.

Residents can also apply for a mail-in ballot by April 22 at 6:00 p.m.

The general voting day is on Monday, April 28, 2025.
