Residents of Fort Macleod will need to go elsewhere if they need emergency healthcare.

Alberta Health Services says the emergency department at the town’s Health Centre will close from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 11, 2025.

They say there was an “unexpected clinical personnel shortage and an inability to secure coverage.”

During the temporary closure, nursing staff will remain on-site to provide care for long-term care residents.

People who are having a medical emergency can phone 911. EMS calls will be redirected to Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge, which is 49 kilometres away.

Emergency services are also available at the Pincher Creek Health Centre, Cardston Health Centre, Claresholm Community Health Centre or Chinook Regional Hospital.
