David Bexte running for Conservative Party in Bow River

Apr 14, 2025 | 8:40 AM

The Conservative Party of Canada has announced its candidate for the Bow River riding in southern Alberta.

David Bexte looks to fill the shoes of retiring Conservative MP Martin Shields, who has held that office since 2015.

He provided the following answers to LNN in a questionnaire:

Why did you want to run in the 2025 federal election?

I’m running alongside Pierre Poilievre and the Conservative team because I believe we need to put Canada First, for a change. The cost of living is skyrocketing, farmers and energy workers are under attack, and rural Canada has been ignored by the Carney-Trudeau Liberals for the last decade. Conservatives will axe the carbon tax, unleash our industry and bring home safe streets for our communities.

Why did you choose to run for the Conservative Party?

The Conservative Party is the only party that will put Canada First, for a change. I believe in lower taxes, safe streets, secure borders, and protecting our freedoms. That’s what the Conservative Party stands for, and it’s what I’ve stood for my entire life.

What personal or professional experience do you have that you feel would make you a good MP?

I spent 25 years in the energy sector, rising to Vice President at Schlumberger Canada. I’ve worked in the Arctic, Newfoundland, and across Alberta. I also operate a multi-generational family farm. I’ve signed paycheques, managed large teams, and lived the same struggles my neighbours face every day. I feel I bring the professional and lived experience needed to represent this region.

What would be a few of your top priorities if elected?

My top priorities if elected will be to:

  • Repeal anti-energy legislation like Bill C-69 and C-48.
  • Create a Canada First National Energy Corridor.
  • Axe the carbon tax for everyone, for real and for good.
  • Create a ‘One and Done’ rule for resource projects, which is a one-stop shop with one application and one environmental review.

Where can people learn more about you and your platform?

People can visit www.DavidBexte.ca to learn more about me, sign up to volunteer, or get in touch with our team.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I’m a farmer, an oilman, and a dad. I’ll work every day to be your voice in Ottawa, defending your interests and our way of life.
