A big opportunity is coming up for a trio of local racquetball players.

Coby Iwaasa, Naman Guari and Makaio White have all qualified for the 2025 Racquetball Canadian National Championships, set to take place in Burlington, Ontario in May.

Iwaasa will be competing in singles events, as well as doubles competition alongside Kurtis Cullen.

He told LNN that he is looking forward to competing on a major stage once again.

“It means another opportunity to put everything that I’ve done in practice into a match. Every year the competition gets better and stronger, and every year that I’m able to overcome these new challenges, is a blessing,” says Iwaasa.

Last week, Iwaasa was recognized by the Lethbridge Sport Council as its Senior Male Athlete of the Year. He says it was a honour to receive the award.

Although I am the one who is recognized, I would like to share the recognition with my team and everyone behind me, for all the efforts done during game preparation, execution and recovery, for this is not a one-person job, and they deserve it as much as I do. “

Iwaasa has won numerous national and international titles, Guari is a former national junior champion. White, being only eight years old, will be one of the younger athletes at the tournament.
