Lethbridge wrestler wins silver at Pan-American Championships

A local woman has emerged from a major international athletics competition with some hardware.

Angelina Ellis-Toddington won a silver medal in the women’s 65 kg weight class at the 2025 U23 Pan-American Wrestling Championships in Querétaro, Mexico.

She defeated Mexican competitor Elide Castanon Buendia in round two but fell to American Nina Blanche in the final.

Ellis-Toddington is one of three members of the University of Calgary Dinos wrestling team who earned medals at the event.

Gabriela Cross won silver in the women’s 57 kg event while Joseph De Maio finished second in the men’s 92 kg category.

This event adds one more notch to an ever-growing list of credentials for Ellis-Toddington, which also includes:

  • 2025 U SPORTS Champion – 68kg
  • 2025 Canada West Champion – 68kg
  • U SPORTS Medallist: 2024 – 65kg – Bronze
  • Canada West Medallist: 2024 – 65kg – Silver; 2023 – 67kg – Silver; 2022 – 72kg – Bronze
  • 2023-24 Academic All-Canadian
  • 2022-23 Academic All-Canadian
  • 2021-22 Academic All-Canadian
  • U SPORTS Athlete of the Week: Jan. 17, 2024
  • Canada West Athlete of the Week: Jan. 17, 2024

The Pan American Championships served as a qualifier for the 2025 Asunción Junior Pan-Am Games and is a critical pathway to the 2025 World U23 Championships.
