Alberta School Councils’ Association holding Annual General Meeting

Apr 25, 2025 | 2:42 PM

The Alberta School Councils’ Association (ASCA) is holding the School Councils’ Symposium and Annual General Meeting (AGM) on April 26 and 27 in its 96th year of promoting parent engagement in public education.

The Symposium and AGM will be held via Zoom to encourage more attendees. School councils can register and share the meeting with school council members to take part in sessions. This year, over 300 delegates are expected to attend development sessions and discuss current provincial education issues.

“While it started almost a century ago, parents across our province are still coming together through their school councils to learn together, be empowered, and to elevate their collective voices to education partners, stakeholders, and decision makers through advocacy policies,” comments ASCA President Ken Glazebrook.

This meeting determines association policy that forms the basis of ASCA advocacy. This year’s topics include: a pilot program for electric school buses in Alberta, mandatory funding for specialist teachers in elementary schools, mandatory reporting on the state of public schools, discontinuing mandatory timed testing for Grades K-3 and online safety.
